Everyone can attest that after a big meal, sex is usually the last thing on their mind. The first thing we usually want to do is take a long nap. But if you eat right, food can actually set the mood! We talked with our Registered Dieticians about what food is the best to eat before a marathon sex session.
Feel good from the inside out
Gut health is extremely important. It affects things we never thought were connected! Our Registered Dietician Kayla Hansmann says most of the body’s serotonin is produced in the gut, which impacts our mood, appetite, and sex drive.
We know just how much difference a healthy gut can make in life. For a food that really helps your gut, look into adding fermented food into your diet. This includes kombucha, sauerkraut, pickles, tempeh, and kimchi.
Focus on good sugar
Choosing foods that help balance blood sugars will help us avoid ‘hangry’ spells or blood sugar dips. But stay away from food that is high in simple sugars, which can lead to irritability and crankiness.
Some good food that regulates blood sugar includes berries, citrus fruits, nuts, nut butter, and broccoli.
Get those omega-3 fatty acids
This type of fat is good for your body! Healthful fats are important for hormone transport all over your body. Plus, omega-3 fatty acids have so many health benefits, it’s hard to see why you wouldn’t add them to your diet. They can improve cardiovascular health, lower triglycerides, and increase dopamine production, which helps fight depression.
Fish is the well-known to contain omega-3, but you can also find it in seeds and nuts like flaxseed, chia seeds, and walnuts.
Take your vitamins
Fun fact: Vitamin E increases blood flow and oxygen to your genitalia. That’s not all it does! It also gives you stamina and energy. Boost your mood and support your nervous system by getting enough Vitamin E. It also doesn’t hurt to get more vitamins in your diet, like Vitamin A, which is essential in producing testosterone.
Great places to get vitamin E include dark, leaf vegetables, bananas, oats, and other whole grain carbs.
Did you say… chocolate?
This last one is well-known for good reason. Chocolate helps when dementors board your train to Hogwarts, when your significant other forgets an important anniversary, and when you’re looking to get lucky.
Which chocolate should you eat to boost libido? Dark chocolate and cocoa powder are full of antioxidants that get you in the mood.
