DIY Face Masks for Glowing Skin

DIY Face Masks for Glowing Skin

Clean, natural, and healthy. Very few skin care products are all these things, but that’s not the case for all-natural face masks. The last thing you want to do to your face is introduce it to harmful, artificial chemicals.

Natural face masks, on the other hand, are packed with vitamins and minerals that help skin in a vast number of ways. They cleanse, exfoliate, and detoxify. As a result, collagen is boosted, redness and irritation can be prevented, and pores can tighten. And that’s only scratching the surface (see what we did there). There’s a seemingly endless variety of masks and results, so let’s highlight some of the best.

Honey

Honey can be found in several mask recipes. It’s a humectant, so not only does it moisturize,, but it prolongs that moisturization as well. Make sure the honey is natural or you’ll just be rubbing sugary syrup on your face. If its packaging is shaped like a bear, it’s probably not for you.

One honey-based recipe we love is from The Derm Review. The ingredients are great for healing acne and reducing the visibility of scars.

INGREDIENTS

  • ¼ avocado, mashed
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil
  • ¼ tsp almond oil
  • 1 tbsp raw honey
  • Optional: 2-4 drops of lavender oil

DIRECTIONS

Mash the avocado with a fork. Add in the rest of the ingredients and mix thoroughly. Be very sparing with the lavender oil because using too much can damage your skin. Apply to the face and leave it on for 10 minutes. Then, wet a washcloth at room temperature and cover the face for 30 seconds. Gently remove when finished.

Oatmeal

It’s not just for breakfast! Colloidal oatmeal (ground up oats, which can be bought at the store or blend rolled oats until they turn into flour) is drier than the average bowl of oatmeal, but reduces redness and irritation and increases moisture. Check out this recipe from Self.com.

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 tbsp colloidal oatmeal
  • 1 tsp baking soda

DIRECTIONS

Mix ingredients, apply mixture to the face for 15 minutes, and gently remove with warm water. No washcloth required.

Avocado

This healthy fat is not only good for your body, but also for the texture of your skin! Rich in antioxidant-filled vitamins C and E, avocados provide a myriad of benefits. Their omega fatty acids seal cracks in the skin and provide enough hydration to ensure that those cracks stay sealed. Then, avocados make sure to prevent further dryness and protect the skin from damage brought on by things such as UV rays. Not only that, but avocado oil is great for covering all the bases and prolonging your overall skin health. Notice that this recipe also involves honey, so you’ll be getting the great benefits of a humectant as well.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 avocado, mashed
  • 2 tbsp plain yogurt
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp honey

DIRECTIONS

Mix ingredients, apply mixture to the face for 10 minutes, and rinse.

More often than not, DIY projects are exhausting and labor intensive. But with these all natural face masks, you can sit back, relax, and easily reap the benefits nature has to offer. Ready for an easy and relaxing spa day? Yes, please!
