We Stand with Women’s Reproductive Rights

June 24, 2022 is a day that will forever be ingrained in the minds of women’s rights activists. The Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, ending the right to abortion after almost 50 years. Then, the dominoes began to fall. 16 states have a ban against abortion in effect or are expected to ban it soon, according to the New York Times. This affects 16 million women of reproductive age. Another 6 states, affecting 16.6 million women, have or will have restricted access to abortion. 20 states protect or are expanding access to abortion. That will affect 26.5 million women of reproductive age.
We’ve seen protests across the country. This is not a surprise, since a majority of the country disapproves of the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade (59% according to CBS News). The Patty Brisben Foundation Medical Advisory Board, with the founder of PBF and Pure Romance, Patty Brisben, released the statement below, standing with patients and their right to make decisions about what happens to their own body. As a company dedicated to fighting for women’s sexual wellness, Pure Romance wholeheartedly supports this statement.
The Patty Brisben Foundation for Women’s Sexual Health (PBF) ascribes to the founding principles that every woman deserves the education and resources to feel comfortable and confident in her body. Together, with the PBF, we can enhance sexual health and well-being… one woman at a time.
The Patty Brisben Foundation Medical Advisory Board is opposed to any effort that ultimately compromises the integrity and disrupts the therapeutic alliance between an individual and her health care professional. The recent Supreme Court’s action overturning Roe v. Wade is a systematic violation of a woman’s autonomy, right to privacy, and self-determination. It violates and compromises her essential reproductive rights. As health care professionals, we remain strongly committed to protecting the lives of our patients, both medically, physically, and psychologically. This unjust ruling has jeopardized the sacred covenant between a patient and her health care professional. A patient’s health care needs remain of paramount importance. States that end legal, safe terminations will ultimately compromise the physical and mental health of women. Women deserve the independence and empowerment to control their own reproductive capacity. Limiting access to safe and medically sound termination of pregnancy will cause far reaching harm.
At the Patty Brisben Foundation, we are dedicated to female empowerment and support bodily autonomy of women in medical decision making. We believe and know that all women should have self-determination over their own body and sexuality.
As clinicians, health care professionals, fathers, mothers, daughters, and sisters, we firmly stand behind all women and support the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. All private medical decisions should be made in confidence between the health care professional and their patients.
The Medical Board of Advisors for the Patty Brisben Foundation for Women’s Sexual Health will continue to support and advocate for the rights of all women and their partners who are seriously harmed by this unjust overturning of legal precedence.
