An Ode to Black Women’s Sexuality

Hey Queen,

Today and every day we celebrate you! You come from a legacy of beautiful and strong women that can thrive and survive.

We celebrate Anarcha, Lucy, and Betsey whose bodies were used to create modern gynecology.

We celebrate June Dobbs Butts whose research emphasized communication and having real conversations about sex in the Black community.

We honor the work of Audre Lorde, Toni Morrison, Zora Neale Hurston, and the many others whose writings celebrate and tell stories of Black women and their sexuality.

We celebrate and acknowledge the seen and unseen work of those who came before, those present, and those to come in acknowledging the sensuality and sexiness of Black women.

Today is the day to embrace your curves, your breasts, your thighs, the marvel of your skin, and, should I dare say, clitoris.

It is time to embody our pleasure, our sensuality, and sexuality in ways that our ancestors could not.
